Springfield Blogger’s Meeting
I’d just finished shooting Branson from the sky in a 57 Cessna. It’s almost 7:30 and I’m racing northbound on the 65 to catch the Springfield Blogger’s meeting. From the airport it’s 50 miles to downtown Springfield. I’d been planning on going to the meeting for months to represent Branson Missouri – but – I’m so dam busy I have to schedule my own bowel movements. I’m hoping to get a personal glimpse of the writer’s I read on a regular basis. Perhaps, I ponder, I’ll be live to hear a witty turn of phrase from a Snarling Marmot in this week’s podcast. But I’m too late. Professor Cline and that Libertarian Guy are sitting at the table sipping a beer.
Some gathered Intel….
Libertarian Guy…he’s alright; spent 500 on his campaign last year and acquired 500 votes. I verbally ponder the idea of legalization of paying off voters. Think about it…a buck a house. You could probably win some votes that way if it were legal. You’d remember …That’s the Guy that Gives A Buck!..(Nice slogan huh?) Professor Cline, as you probably know by now is a wealth of information and informs me that before President Jackson direct payoffs were all part of the game. Today, they do the same thing – but the law requires a higher level of sophistication..
There’s a nice long list out there of politicians whose family members are lobbyists.
I don’t know if you’ve gathered this already but I was pretty excited to meet these guys. When you’re reading someone’s personal thoughts and opinions everyday you feel like you know them or at least you get to know a part of them that they feel is important enough to share with the world.
A bitching session about the links posted on the KY3 blog ensues right before David Catanese walks in. Here’s the thing, when you meet people that you read you begin to develop a higher sense of responsibility realizing that there is a person behind the headlines – which brings me to my next point and item of discussion…
Michelle Sherwood and David Catanese have a very different style of reporting; both are professional story tellers with different perspectives. Michelle’s personal approach and David’s fact filled reporting is a reflection of both philosophical approach and the type of assignments the television station gives them. It was interesting to hear their perspectives and understand where they were coming from. Michelle seems to be in touch with the common person’s perspective and strives to communicate with this ideology in mind, while David is clearly a political animal.
My attempts to record them demonstrating reporting style with the menu were in vain…next time….well, maybe.
Oh yeah, here’s my beef with the KY3 blog….the links are totally one sided…the Blogger’s referenced are self professed Liberals. Which is ok, but it slants my view of the station. I look to the right hand column and …well, you know all the dirty words people have to say about the press. I don’t think David report’s the news in a biased fashion, but, the imbalance in media references, national media to the side, provide bias before I ever read his posts. Having met him; I will now make an effort to judge him not by the color of his links but by the content of his posts…But, the Libertarian guy has a point – you should link to all the candidates!
What’s the best way to get a story on the air about Branson ? Ummm, someone has to die.. J
Larry popped onto the scene and makes a public service announcement about talk Like a Pirate day…..which I felt really bad about – cause I failed to participate in the celebration.
One last thing – to the Branson High Faculty – It was confirmed by the Springfield Bloggers foremost expert on Soccer that Soccer isn’t just for commies. J
All in all – worth the hundred mile round trip drive.

Hmmm…I don’t think I’ll attempt to set her straight….sounds tougher than a political battle against well funded opponents..

Sigh. One of these days I’m going to get to one of the blogger’s meetings. I’l like to meet some of the people behind the words myself (though I’ve already met the Libertarian Guy!)

Ms. Cambell,
So happy to see you here! I had acutally anticipated you being at the meeting (we talked about you briefly)…I would like to setup a video blog…next best thing?

I assure you that Mr. Catanese is running down the center stripe when it comes to his reporting. I’ve participated in many political conversations with him in house… where I’ve expressed my own opinion… and still, I couldn’t tell you which way he steps up to the plate.
I know that there have been some suggestions that he is liberal or conservative based on what stickers were on his desk… and I’ll be the first to say, he has ALL the stickers. Not just a few.
I’m glad you met him. He’s solid… and one of the good guys. Hopefully, you and some of the other critics will see what I mean soon.
Good post…

Thanks for the vote of “he’s alright”, but I’m not sure my ex would agree…
