Who is Branson Blue Hair asked a local reporter today. The man behind the hair is none other than Morris James. The Nixa resident has worked in two of Branson’s major media outlets over the past several years and has been in the broadcasting world for nearly 4 decades. According to Morris, reporting on Branson is all about serving two masters - Branson Tourists and Branson Locals.

Morris served a short stint at Branson Daily News after leaving KRZK in Branson. According to KRZK management Morris preached that radio was dead and encouraged the station to engage the Internet. James experience working for two of Branson’s most conservative media outlets have left him with some interesting perspectives. His organization skills have survived in the Branson radio market in what may be the most efficient media outlet in the city. Regional coverage in Branson is relatively poor and Morris’s innovations while serving as News Editor for radio station’s KOMC/KRZK have contributed to what is probably the best hard news outlet in the region.

Detail’s about Morris James’s stint as editor for the Branson Daily News are less well known; however, he brought part of the radio station’s staff with him a “party” that ended shortly after he introduced himself. A story at the Branson Daily News regarding “sewer lines” broke shortly before James left and shortly after he officially introduced himself to the public. During the reign of Morris James at the Branson Daily News the layout was lacking but hard news increased - something the paper has been lacking in the past. Details, like many events that happen at the paper were limited to off the record whispers. Though the newspaper’s owner Delaney has a reputation for being “hard” on the hired help - he’s also known for paying employee’s very well.

In contrast, Brandon Cone, a writer for the paper, has stated that he’s never been treated poorly by Delany claiming the editor asks “for excellence.” Ex-employees have been a bit more critical framing the owner as a man who goes off the handle in an unpredictable manner. Employees are often re-cycled in the market and have been known to come back after major tiffs…again…he pays well.

Blue Hair says his motivation is that “he loves to write” and harvests the majority of his information from smart agents in addition to “riding the wire”. These stories are mixed with understanding of past experiences with character’s in the local market. Though some reports aren’t timely, the retired reporter provides some interesting perspectives and a great deal of cumulative knowledge..
